1. Super Bowl:

* 49ers got called for holding shirt but not Ravens in the biggest moment (ball was uncatchable?)
* Refs not calling anything favored the Ravens.
* How is Boldin allowed to catch a pass and come back and talk trash and then head butt the defender and that is acceptable practice in the NFL
* I though the fumble was forward progress
* Raven Cary Williams was out of control during the skirmish and actually pushed a referee but no call

* Why can’t we get a quarterback like Flacco
* Were 9-16 on third down / 49ers 2-9
* Anquan Boldin has now justified his decision to say no to the Patriots and go to the Ravens

* First play of the game and the 49ers line up wrong
* On the two point play and the fourth down play, the Ravens brought everyone and Kaepernick couldn’t audible out of it – Harbaugh should have called a timeout
* Moss seemed to give up on a couple routes and not jump for a ball that was intercepted
* Chris Culliver should keep his mouth shut and play better football

* Halftime was 32 minutes / Lights out 33 minutes
* The Beyonce act from clothes to dance is completely inappropriate with families watching across the country – moral fiber has been destroyed by MTV
* Kevin Harland on the radio is terrible
* Boomer Esiason before the game said that the 49ers should be inspired this being called the Ray Lewis party and mentioned the murders and elk juice
* Commercials terrible except Taco Bell and old people
* Did CBS have to show Desmond Howard’s kickoff return?
* Curious of John Harbaugh will be fined for swearing and screaming at an NFL official during the blackout
* When the lights went out – did Homeland Security go on alert?

2. Celtics:

* Rondo has to be bumming with the Celtics winning without him
* Celtics have actually beat three divisional leaders without Rondo – Knicks, Clippers, Heat
* Avery Bradley has been shooting like Greg Kite since his return – 40%
* Jason Terry was a plus-17 for the Celtics – scoring 13 points
* Will shooters not want to play with Rondo because he looks inside and not for players coming off pics (ie. Ray Allen / Terry playing better)
* Doc Rivers must be enjoy focusing on just coaching and not babysitting

3. Bruins:

* Chris Bourque scoring game winner for first goal – proud moment I’m sure for family (are the Bruins the only team to have father and sons play”?)
* Bruins forwards Seguin, Peverley, Bergeron and Lucic have four combined goals on 93 shots (.04%)
* Do you think anyone close to Shawn Thornton has mentioned the names Wade Belak, Derek Rypien or Derek Boogaard this week?
* Old school leaders – Bruins and Blackhawks are a combined 13-1-2

4. Red Sox:

* Do you think Wally is on the juice?
* For a program that has had Ted Williams, Manny, Jimmy Foxx, Jim Rice – sad to think that we are approaching Spring Training with no cleanup hitter
* Anyone working with Jon Lester on his mound presence?
* Pedroia must be a car wreck at home during the winter
* Upon their deaths, the Drew family will donate their hamstrings to science (or their hearts)

5.  NFL Kickers:

Didn’t know that NFL hall of fame kicker Lou Groza was also an offensive lineman – he must have thrown up watching Bill Grammatica and his celebration leading to a season ending injury:

6. Top Ten Golfers of the Last 40 Years:

1. Jack Nicklaus
2. Tiger Woods
3. Tom Watson
4. Seve Ballesteros
5. Nick Faldo
6. Phil Mickelson
7. Gary Player
8. Johnny Miller
9. Lee Trevino
10. Raymond Floyd

Who’s left off this list – Vijay Singh, Ernie Els, Hale Irwin, Greg Norman (should have been top 5), Ben Crenshaw

7. Amazing Stat:

The Patriots are one of the most storied programs in AFL / NFL history – Bill Parcells is the first Patriot non-player to be voted into the Hall of Fame.

* Very few others related to the Patriots that are in the Hall of Fame – John Hannah / Andre Tippett and then Mike Haynes, Nick Buoniconti, Raymond Berry, Curtis Martin (No Geno, Stanley Morgan)

8. Old School:

Last Garden games of three Boston Celtic greats:

* Bird……………16 points / 14 assists / 6 rebounds
* Havlicek……..29 points / 8 assists / 4 rebounds
* McHale………30 points / 10 rebounds

9. Just a Little Bit Outside:

Companies the iPhone (or smart phones) have put out of business

* GPS systems
* Watch companies
* Stop Watch companies
* Cameras
* Calculators
* Recorders

10. Randomocity:

* Clark Booth wrote in the Pilot this week on Jerry York – “It can be plausibly clamed that Jerry York is the best coach of anything in the troubled realm of American collegiate sport today. For nobody coaching anything does it better while adhering to higher standards.”
* When Cleveland comes to town – I hope (but I’m sure he won’t) that Francona brings out the lineup card and gets a 5 minute standing ovation
* The Model T was built in 12 hours and 13 minutes before the assembly line / 1 hour and 33 minutes after it
* Ray Lewis praying on the cover of Sports Illustrated is offensive
* Women’s basketball: Tufts and Amherst entered Saturday’s game a combined 43-0 / Amherst won 54-48

  1. Could not agree more on the halftime show. It is a disgrace that the NFL decides that is what they want to put on during halftime of their flagship program. I had to shut it off so that my young kids wouldn’t think that that’s how girls should dress and act.

    I thought that the clydesdale commercial was really good and I loved the Doge truck commercial with the Paul Harvey commentary about farmers.

    I gained respect for Boomer when he questioned Ray Lewis’s answer to his suck up interview with Shannon Sharpe. I don’t think that saying “God doesn’t make mistakes” answers the victim’s families’ questions.

    REPLY – MPC – As usual on the same page

  2. I had more of a problem with the Calvin Klein underwear commercial minutes into the 1st quarter than the Beyonce show. What happened to the Victoria’s Secret commercials?

    REPLY – MPC – I missed that one – thank God. Its legit a PG 13 broadcast

  3. Ed Reed absolutely off sides on 2 pt conversion attempt; Paul Harvey/Dodge commercial far and away the best. … Can’t believe censors allowed “God” to be stated on TV.

  4. i just boycott every halftime show because i know it’s awful, horrid stuff. the fantasy land that these music stars perpetuate is vapid. we went old school, and had a pacman tourney at halftime.

    brady >>>>>> flacco… it’s not close, please don’t intimate that flacco is anything but an above average QB that got hot this year.

    REPLY – MPC – Yes pacman – brady is much better than Flacco but its closer than it was and Flacco has to be moved up to top 7

  5. Halftime show was a complete disgrace. I also had to turn it off because of my children. The NFL should be ashamed of themselves and it was icing on the cake for the Ray Lewis hero worship bowl. They have done a great job as a league marketing the game, but I question their thought process (or lack thereof)of late.

    Reply – mpc – $$$$$$$$ – thats all they care about – was Roger Goodele sitting with that little kid during the Cabaret act?

  6. Great game… to watch the game’s greatest lb close with a goal line stand and win the superbowl in his final game….WOW… Inspiring

  7. Anyone else think the commercial was a little much also?

    Jerry York is one of the FEW things that is right not only in college athletics but sports in general.

    Am interested to read Francona book, but am annoyed that he chose Shaughnessy to co-write it.

    REPLY – MPC – I was uncomfortable watching – considering the fact that she wouldn’t even look at that kid never mind french kiss him but she was paid so that makes her a relative prostitute / yes on York / I will get Francona book – lot of money they are making

  8. What was the over/under in helmuts flying off during the game?

    Reply – Mpc – they are stressing head injuries and these guys have loose helmets with chin straps unbuckled

  9. Great point in reply to mfcurtis. No pads and helmets aren’t even close to fitting properly.
