Authorities have obtained a video identifying former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez on video at a Boston nightclub at the same time as two men who were eventually killed hours later according to a report in the Hartford Courant.
The unsolved double murder of Dorchester residents Daniel Abreu, 29, and Safiro Furtado, 28, occurred in 2012 when the two men were killed in their car in a drive-by shooting.
Police had been searching for a gray SUV with Rhode Island license plates, as identified by witnesses, in connection with the murders for the past year. As police searched for evidence in connection to the murder of Odin Lloyd this June in Hernandez’s hometown of Bristol, Conn., authorities found a car similar to the description of the SUV. The vehicle was rented to Hernandez’s uncle and it is believed the car had been housed at Hernandez’s uncle’s house for the past year.
Police are also examining a .38-caliber pistol that was recovered back in June in a vehicle of a Bristol woman in connection to the 2012 double murders. The woman claimed she did not know the identity of the owner of the gun, only that he went by the name “Chicago” and played in the NFL.
The video will be crucial in linking Hernandez to the victims and the scene of the crime as prosecutors build their case against him. Hernandez has already been charged with the murder of Lloyd but has plead not guilty.
