Connelly’s Top Ten: Rainy Days and Sunday Always Get Me Down

1. Patriots Put us to Sleep On Rainy Sunday:

* Brady is not throwing accurately and receivers are not getting separation
* Only thing I see out of Josh McDaniel right now is biting his nails
* I’m just going to say it – this is a game Tebow could have helped you in
* How many wrong holes did Bolden pick – had a big gainer early on a screen that he broke back inside

* Are you kidding me Kelley was the best lineman all year – that’s 725 pounds they have lost in two weeks
* Catch by Marvin Jones down the left sideline reminded me of Mario Manningham of the Giants against the Patriots
* Chris Jones had a sack – who is he?
* Talib is the third best corner in Patriot history behind Mike Haynes and Raymond Clayborn
* I thought Mayo was making impactful tackles / Spikes is all or nothing shooting gaps whether the running back is there or not
* Still waiting for Hightower to show up

* Mr. Kraft with 3:28 left in the third quarter (behind him the girlfriend was reviewing the stat sheet or she had a book hidden behind it)
* Dunkin Donuts hit a nerve with me showing a Gronk commercial at the end of the third quarter – he’s not helping the team but is making money.
* Gronk in the last 14 Patriot games 2 receptions / 42 yards (that was FOURTEEN)
* Edelman caught a punt on the three yard line took out to 15 / Leon Washington took a kick out from back of the end zone to the 15
* Gold Club – Pac Man Jones made it rain and then cashed in with interception

Missed Chances

* Mayo falls on fumble instead of picking it up and running for TD
* Amendola can’t roll into end zone
* Blount fumbles away their best drive
* Edelman drops ball in end zone
* Dobson can’t bring ball on that he had hands on in end zone
* Ben Jarvis fumbled ruled forward progress
* Edelman runs into Dobson with a chance to run in for a TD

2. Red Sox:

* Looks like the Red Sox made Ellsbury into the Manchurian Candidate by showing him the GREATEST penalty kill in NHL history by Greg Campbell over and over again
* Great slide by Victorino Saturday wiping out a double play making Dwight Evans smile at home – no one was better at the clean out
* Ortiz had made pimping home run trots an art form
* Lackey not tip his cap again? He got a standing ovation for 5.1 innings / 10 base-runners / 4 runs / 6.75 ERA
* 1st game – 12 runs no home runs
* Value of playoffs – more than 76,000 fans in two games for John Henry
* That was great when Meyers was mocked for catch on Saturday
* 24-10 in last 34 games (of the ten losses 7 were by one run or in extra innings)

3. Welker vs. Amendola / Brady vs. Manning:

Welker – 31 receptions / 315 yards / 7 TD
Amendola – 14 receptions / 159 yards / 0 TD

Brady – 7 TD to 3 INT / 1211 yards / 111-196 (57%)
Manning – 20 TD to 1 INT / 1884 yards / 150-198 (76%)

4. Celtics / Bruins:

* Bruins on pace to go 82-0 / like the balance – they are a deeper team
* Celtics win total in Vegas 27.5 – YIKES

5. Around the NFL:

* Watching Denver and Cowboys options for receiving further confirms that Brady should file a complaint with the Player’s Union
* If you didn’t wear pink this weekend were you pro-cancer?
* The Mannings are 5-5 (they threw for 748 yards Sunday)
* Vintage Romo – insane numbers and finds a way not to win
* Cam Newton struggling is all about karma

6. Around College Football:

* 3-0 on lock picks so far this year (.500 on everything else)
* Gamecock Clowney goes from thinking about skipping the year right to first pick – to being the most over-rated players since the Brian Bosworth
* Crazy defensive TD by Ohio State over Northwestern at end of game for the spread – making Brent Musberger almost throw up in his mouth
* 15 teams in the top 25 with undefeated records – the BCS is getting sweaty

7. Amazing Stats – Tom Brady after five games compared to 2007:

* 2007 – 16 TD to 1 INT / 1383 yards / 117-158 (74%)
* 2013 – 7 TD to 3 INT / 1211 yards / 111-196 (57%)

8. Old School:

In Yaz’s first two playoff series against the Cardinals and the A’s – he was 15 for 36 (.417) with 4 HR / 7 RBI / 8 runs

9. Just a Little Bit Outside:

Nick Carfardo pieces in the Globe about Tom Brady back in the 2000 draft:

* Brady, nearly 6-5 and 210 pounds, is a dropback passer who finally developed in his senior season. He was a big-time player for the Wolverines, making big plays when the team needed them. He was not awed by any situation or event. Scouts like his calmness but don’t see him as a huge talent.

* With a quarterback in mind, the Patriots passed on the athletic Joe Hamilton of Georgia Tech to go for Tom Brady of Michigan with their next pick. Brady, projected as a third-rounder, said he wasn’t upset at slipping. “I don’t think disappointment is the word,” he said. “Whether it’s the second or sixth round, I think everyone starts on the same level.”

* 6th round, 199 – Tom Brady, QB, Michigan
* A pocket passer who will compete for a practice squad spot with the Patriots . . . Drafted as a catcher by the Montreal Expos in 1995 out of Serra (San Mateo, Calif.) HS . . . Completed 62.8 percent of his passes with 20 TDs and six interceptions. Only Elvis Grbac had more TD tosses in a season for the Wolverines . . . Throws a great slant . . . At almost 6-4, 214 pounds, has some mobility . . . Platooned with sophomore Drew Henson . . . Was projected to go in the third round, but dropped quickly.

10. Randomocity:

* Red Auerbach always cut the local guy – Ray Flynn, Ronny Perry because he didn’t want the pressure of the crowd – is that what Jacksonville is doing with Tebow?
* USA wins the JV international tournament again – President’s Cup
* Anchorman Ron Burgundy pushing the Durango vehicle – good cross marketing
* 50% of the Naval Academy classes shut down with the government not working
* The more this NFL season unfolds the more aggravated I’m becoming over the Welker thing

  2. Brady has progressivly been losing his downfield ability the last 2 years. Just watch him under throw and over throw is open down field receivers

    Reply – MPC – Never was a great long thrower – Moss was jump balls
