Connelly’s Top Ten: Duck Boats Ready

1. Red Sox Redux:

* I would never pay another player over $17mm a season
* How long before Ben Cherrington has to start feeding the monster
* Was that the best audience at a Boston sporting event ever – maybe matching the heat game against the Lakers in 1984
* Does Scott Boras care about his clients?
* Would you trade Jackie Bradley and John Lester for Buster Posey / or would you make a run at Tulowitzki / How about if Angels picked up half the salary of Pujols
* Under the premise sell high do you move Lester and Lackey this offseason at their highest value
* Do you go after Starlin Castro of the Cubs who had a down year and Theo has a top ten prospect at SS in minors Javier Baez

2. Patriots preview:

* Record of teams Patriots have beaten 22-30
* Patriots 29th third down conversion 32.2%
* 8th in sacks with 24 – keep blitzing!!!!
* Punting Patriots leading in touchbacks with 7 – Mesko just 2
* Edelman, who leads Pats in yards, is 29th in the league in receiving yards with 462 (Denver has four receivers in top 30)
* Austin Collie the key to the Patriots offense the second half

3. College Football stuff:

* 2 Lock bets: over Pitt vs. Georgia Tech 53.5 / Mississippi State getting 13 against South Carolina
* Other picks USC over Oregon State +5 / George – Florida under 47.5 / Minnesota – Indiana over 66 /
* Best game – Oklahoma State vs. Texas Tech

During the regular season since his court case and after

Before – 61-27 (.693)
After – 29-18 (.617)

Papi – 11-16 (.688) / 7 runs / 2 HR / 6 RBI / .760 OBP

6. Steelers Stats and Stuff:

* Roethlisberger 8 TD to 7 INT

* Spikes is going to be chasing Heath Miller all game
* Antonio Brown is on pace for 128 receptions / 1,440 yards / 5 TD

9. Just a Little Bit Outside:

In the first six years of Jake Lamotta’s boxing career he fought 75 times or 1.04 times a month.

1941 – 20 bouts
1942 – 14
1943 – 13
1944 – 8
1945 – 12
1946 – 8

10. Randomocity:

* The mischief at the finish line after the World Series is disrespectful – lock those kids up
* Best book series of all time – Hardy Boys
* Winston Churchill was considered by most to be a failure until age 65
* 50 MPH winds – good time to hit driving range if downwind
* Weekends are wicked good – especially when its a duck boat parade

  1. Why do the Sox need to trade for a SS like Castro or Tulo with Bogaerts aboard? A catcher or power-hitting OF, we can talk.

    REPLY – MPC – who is playing third?

  2. No on dealing Lester and Lackey.

    Zero chance the SF Giants deal Posey. He’s the face of the franchise. They have won two titles with him behind the plate.

    No on Pujols, not that the Angels would be dealing him anyway. Let him stay and suffer in Orange County.

    I’m open for a Bradley Jr. deal.

    Will Ortiz look for an extension this winter?

  3. fair question on cherington. the ownership seemed to have their hands off this year, and let the baseball people do their thing. it will be interesting to see if that becomes a trend. i would hope they learned their lesson the past 30 months or so. they were perilously close to losing a fan base, and now look where they are in a single season by taking a step back.

  4. also, i’m going to argue that the return to health of gronk and vereen is more of a key than collie, as it relates to the offense!

    REPLY – MPC – I’m just looking for a go who can catch the 7 yard out

  6. I really liked the Tom Swift and Chip Hilton series as a kid. Heck, I even read Cherry Ames and The Bobbsey Twins! Not to mention Nancy Drew…

    REPLY – MPC – I read the Bronc Burnett books which I recently found on ebay and read again
