Jarrod Saltalamacchia Signs with Marlins

Jarrod Saltalamacchia

The same day the Red Sox signed catcher A.J. Pierzynski to a one-year deal, the Miami Marlins inked former Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia to a three-year deal for $21 million.

Salty had perhaps his best year in 2013, hitting .273/.338/.466 with 40 doubles, 14 home runs and 65 RBI in 121 games.

The Red Sox will have Pierzynski and David Ross behind the dish in 2013, with young studs Blake Swihart and Christian Vazquez waiting in the wings in the coming years.
