Connelly’s Top Ten: Bruins Advance, Sterling is Stuck and Denny McLain

1. Bruins:

* Lucic twice looking like Phil Esposito hanging around the net with stick on ice
* Reilly Smith is the ultimate – just another guy
* Is Krug the best Bruins defenseman skater since Bobby Orr?
* If Bruins win Stanley Cup is Clode in the Hall of Fame?
* Numbers retired on this Bruins team – Chara / Bergeron
* WEEI or Sports Hub should hand out diving scores placards for the series

2. Red Sox:

In Lester’s four losses the Sox have scored five runs / I will give Ben C. credit if he holds the line on Lester (he is on pace for 25 losses)

3. Around the NBA and NHL:

* Boston College’s Reggie Jackson on fire for Thunder – 32 points / 9 rebounds in 37 minutes
* That fad pick of the St. Louis Blues didn’t work out for people
* Donald Sterling proving you don’t have to be smart to make money
* Just when the Clippers had a good thing…
* Garnett – Pierce for three first round picks – brilliant. Garnett giving the Nets 13 minutes / Pierce is shooting 39%

4. Batting Average by order in lineup for Dustin Pedroia:

1st – .259
2nd – .306
3rd – .299
4th – .397

7. Amazing Stats:

Denny McLain in 1968 he won 31 games, of which 28 were complete games

8. Old School:

Denny McLain on the road in 1968:

* 17-2
* 1.40 ERA
* 14 complete games / 5 shutouts
* 130 K to 29 BB

9. Just a Little Bit Outside:

Infamous racist moments in sports:

* Jackie Robinson saga
* Flyer Wayne Simmonds had banana thrown at him on the ice
* Racism rampant in the European soccer leagues
* Ernie Davis in the 1960 Cotton Bowl
* From – Riley Cooper, Imus, Fuzzy Zoeller, Floyd Mayweather,

10. Randomocity:

* Why don’t I get butter with my bread when I go out to eat – enough with fe-fe stuff
* I’m nervous with Subban in town – some drunk in the Boston crowd will justify the city racist stereotype we unfairly have received
* Monster loss by Liverpool Sunday putting the title hopes in jeopardy
* Rockie center fielder Charlie Blackmon leading baseball in average – last four years his average: .255 / .283 / .309 /.398

  1. Canadian teams won the cup every year from 1984 – 1990.

    REPLY – MPC – Thanks mostly to the Oilers

  2. Amazing that Welch had a K/BB rate that was below league avg that year. Only 127 K’s and 77 BBs. Actually ’90 his K/BB ratio was worse then his career avg.

    REPLY – MPC – Good note – I remember he just lived on the outside half the whole season and Eck was there
