Connelly’s Top Ten: Another Bad Weekend for Patriots

Bill Belichick

1. Around the NFL Playoffs:

* All four road teams win – yikes

* Actually felt bad for Hoyer yesterday (are we sure JJ Watt is a little bit over-rated?)

* Goodell at Minnesota – checking on PSI?

* Watching the NBC game with no rooting interest – I must admit that Collinsworth is the best analyst

* How lucky is Seattle in the playoffs – Green Bay drops onside kick last year / this year Minnesota kicker misses chip shot

* Punk Joey Porter who is the linebacker coach made the biggest play of the year for the Steelers going out on the field for no reason and baiting the Bengals into a 15 yard penalty

2. Bad Karma:

* Burfict is an animal (Dale Hunter x 2) – he will go down as the most out of control player in sports history and will forever be remembered for Saturday night

* Pac Man Jones (who seemed to be getting his act together) – After a string of arrests and improper behavior he is publically embarrassed forever

* Jeremy Hill Fumbles – with his friend filming – he was guilty of playing “knockout” at LSU where he went up from behind a walking student and suckered punched him in the face knocking him unconscious

* Adrian Peterson fumble in Minnesota – hit his son last year and now contributed to his team’s loss

3.Ugh for Patriots:

* If they played Cincy – they were without their two best secondary players, Burfict would have been suspended and they would have got the back-up quarterback

* Now Denver – they get Pittsburgh whose quarterback can’t throw ten yards, best receiver is in concussion protocol and is running their third running back

4. Interesting stat in the Globe Sunday – Percentage of snaps Patriots wide receivers were on the field for:

* LaFell………58.9%

* Amendola…51.5%

* Edelman……46.9%

5. Cool watching old school eighty-eight year old Bud Grant walking out in short sleeve shirt in negative 5 temps but it brought to mind former Washington coach George Allen who at the age of 72 had Gatorade poured on him by his Long Beach State team got pneumonia and died

6. Minnesota Viking missed kicks:

* In 1998 NFC Championship at home, Viking kicker Gary Anderson missed a winning 38 yard field goal which would have put them in the Super Bowl. It was the only kick he missed all year being 35 for 35 during the season.

7. Old School:

Burfict and PacMan’s insane behavior in the postseason game reminded me of Cardinal Joaquin Andujar explosion in Game 7 of the 1985 World Series. Getting tossed and carried off the field by his teammates. He destroyed the visitors bathroom with a bat and was sent a bill by the Kansas City Royals

8. Amazing Stats:

Randy Johnson against Hall of Famers and potential Hall of Famers (with at least ten strike outs):

* Ricky Henderson………61 at bats / 30 strike outs – 49%

* Sammy Sosa…………….58 at bats / 25 strikeouts – 43%

* Adrian Beltre……………64 at bats / 19 strike outs – 30%

* Pudge Rodriguez……….81 at bats / 18 strike outs – 22%

* Frank Thomas……………43 at bats / 18 strike outs – 42%

* Mark McGwire………….40 at bats / 18 strike outs – 45%

* Manny being Manny…..56 at bats / 17 strike outs – 30%

* Chipper Jones…………….43 at bats / 17 strike outs – 40%

* Jeff Kent……………………37 at bats / 15 strike outs – 41%

* Kirby Puckett……………60 at bats / 14 strike outs – 23%

* Robbie Alomar…………..41 at bats / 13 strikeouts – 32%

* Tom Glavine………………20 at bats / 11 strikeouts – 55%

9. Just a Little Bit Outside:

Making of a Murderer (netflix)

* Most buzz a TV show has received since Sienfeld

* Binge watching at its best – captivating

* Scary this could go on in this country

* Worth to get NetFlix just for this show

10. Randomocity:

* I like these State Farm commercials with Aaron Rodgers

* Going through the first NFL mock draft the other day and got to 32nd pick and remembered that the league stole the Patriots first round pick.

* Has Boston College called Tom Coughlin or Chip Kelley yet?

* Random players name of day – Long reach Mike Krushelnyski
