The Jacksonville Jaguars traded for the Patriots’ 3rd round pick and selected OG Brandon Linder from Miami. Mel Kiper Jr. glowingly described Linder on live television as ‘a career back up.’ Seemingly, the Patriots didn’t miss out on much. As compensation, the Patriots received the 105th and 179th picks (4th and 6th rounds).
The Patriots calmly waited for their ideal development QB, Jimmy Garoppolo from Eastern Illinois (Tony Romo’s alma mater). He was the fifth quarterback taken in the draft. The Patriots selected him over notable SEC quarterbacks AJ McCarron, Aaron Murray, and Zach Metternberger.
It’s been three long months since Super Bowl XLVIII, but the 2014 NFL Draft is finally upon us, and will be held Thursday through Saturday at New York’s Radio City Music Hall. The Patriots, coming off a 12-4 season and a defeat in the AFC Championship Game, will have eight picks in the Draft: two […]
With the 2014 NFL Draft a little over a week away fans are frothing at the mouth to finally see Roger Goodell at the podium in Radio City Music Hall. Since the draft has been pushed back from its original air date pundits such as us here at SportsofBoston have had more time to evaluate […]
With draft day just under 25 days away, the actual NFL draft and not the Kevin Costner film, speculation about which player a team is going to take are heating up. With the Patriots being one of the most exciting teams to watch in the draft, whether it be trading high picks for multiple lower […]
Trying to guess who the New England Patriots will take in the draft is about as easy as trying to guess the winning Power Ball numbers. Ok, ok, you’d have a better chance with Power Ball, but that doesn’t make it any less fun to try and get inside the mind of Bill Belichick. While […]
Amid reports of his connections to gangs and other off-field and locker room issues, Pro Bowl wide receiver DeSean Jackson has been released by the Philadelphia Eagles. The move comes after weeks of rumors and speculation, including a strangely playful photo from Jackson’s Twitter account of coach Chip Kelly (presumably to prove their wondrous relationship), […]
A day after pulling off a deal to bring Revis Island to New England, the Patriots continued to add to their defense by signing former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Brandon Browner. In his three-year career Browner has been one of the top cornerbacks in the league, with 10 interceptions over that span. His addition, combined with […]
While everyone is focusing on the big wave free agency splash made by the Denver Broncos, the New England Patriots are quietly trying to make waves of their own. Sure, signing Darrelle Revis was about as big a splash as it gets but the team is also meeting with cornerback Brandon Browner. Who is Brandon […]
The pipe dream has come true. The New England Patriots wasted no time after Darrelle Revis was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday afternoon, swooping in to sign the former Jets cornerback to a one-year, $12 million contract. No, seriously: CB Darrelle Revis and the New England Patriots have reached agreement on a […]
The rumors have been swirling for a while now: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are getting rid of cornerback Darrelle Revis, and the New England Patriots are interested in taking him off their hands. I’ve tried laughing it off as another of those ridiculous offseason “stories” that have no real journalistic basis. I didn’t want to […]
For those Patriots fans who subscribe to the “We need more weapons on offense” theory, now is the time you should stop reading. It appears as if quarterback Tom Brady is at risk of losing his top pass target for the second year in a row. One year after Wes Welker defected to the Denver […]
According to reports by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the New England Patriots and wide receiver Julian Edelman had discussions Thursday about a new contract. After leading the Patriots in receiving last season, Edelman is set to become a free agent. Thanks to his 105 catches for 1,056 yards and six touchdowns in 2013, he is certainly due […]
Even though there are 12 Patriots scheduled to be unrestricted free agents, only two were ever really serious considerations for the franchise tag. Julian Edelman and Aqib Talib were all the buzz after New England’s season ended in January. Both were key to the Patriots’ success, yet both were still deemed unworthy of the tag.
With the NFL season ending in disappointment for everyone except the Seattle Seahawks, teams are looking to take advantage of the offseason and restructure their rosters to build a championship caliber team. With the offseason also comes free agency and teams are faced with the difficult challenge of deciding which players are worthy of re-signing […]
