The long awaited announcement that was always expected will finally come to fruition today at the Maine Red Claws – a new NBA Developmental League team in Portland, Maine – will be named as the Boston Celtics affiliate.
While the Red Claws have used the past few months developing their name, logo and renovating the aged Portland Expo (their new home), the team had to wait to find out which NBA team it would be affiliated with. Though no news was official until today, it was always understood the Celtics were on target to be that team (the initial announcement ceremony included Celtics Team President Rich Gotham and the Celtics Dancers). The Red Claws are hosting an announcement party in Portland’s monument square this afternoon. It’s also expected to be announced that the Red Claws will also be the D-League affiliate of the Charlotte Bobcats.
