John Lackey Placed on Disabled List, Atchison Called Up

Last week, we asked: what is wrong with John Lackey? Well, apparently he may have been injured.

The Red Sox placed Lackey on the 15-day disabled list on Monday with a strained right elbow. Lackey is also battling some off-the-field issues as his wife has been battling cancer.

His elbow injury and off-the-field issues have contributed to his miserable season. He is currently 2-5 with a major-league-worst 8.01 ERA. He also has a 1.81 WHIP.

With Alfredo Aceves and Scott Atchison pitching in relief Monday against the Orioles, Tim Wakefield will likely get the start in Lackey’s place on Tuesday.

Had Lackey started Tuesday evening, some fans were attempting to organize an effort to “support” the righty.
